Job Description

• Reporting To: Maintenace Supervisor 

Job Purpose

Under general supervision, the purpose of this role is to ensure general maintenance of the gardens, plants and lawns of the hotel through cutting the lawn and maintenance of plants and shrubbery in order to ensure an attractive and well-maintained hotel area.

Additionally, maintain the beautification of the lawns and gardens in order to attract guests to hotels lush and green surroundings.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Responsible for soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation and planting.
• Responsible for keeping grounds and loading dock clean, free of garbage and debris.
• Responsible for maintaining flower beds, shrubbery, etc.
• Maintain gardens, lawn and grass areas by naturally fertilizing, trimming and making sure that plants are receiving adequate water.
• Prune trees and cut hedges in ways that help the plants' health, safe and look good.
• Plant and transplant flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns.
• Tide up and clean outside of the hotel building including pathways, pond, steps, walls etc.
• Keep the gardens, thoroughfares and footpaths clear and free from litter at all times.
• Maintain inventory of supplies needed to perform job function by reporting the inventory level to the Horticulturist.
• Report equipment malfunctions to supervisor as and when noticed.
• Estimate materials and supplies needed for installation purposes and submit to supervisor for requisition.
• Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.

Other

• Perform other related duties as maybe assigned.
• Keep the tool shed / store room clean and tidy.

Work Relationships

• Coordinates with: All departmental heads and staff within the hotel

Required Skills or Experience

Educational Qualification and Experience

• Basic education, plus previous experience in similar role.
• Sound knowledge in the use of horticultural machinery is an added advantage.

Required Skills

• Familiarity with plants and shrubs
• Able to work in all weather conditions with knowledge of the use of machinery, lawn mower, trimmers, brush cutter, hedge cutters, chainsaw etc.
• Good knowledge of plants, must be organized and able to follow schedules.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Team spirit with flexibility to work on shifts, night hours, holidays, etc.
