The USAID-supported Agricultural Governance, Resilience and Economic Empowerment (AGREE) Activity has the overall goal to ensure responsive governance for improved agricultural sector development in Ghana. In September 2020, the scope of the Activity was expanded to include the Women in Shea (WISH) Initiative to advance women’s economic empowerment. The Activity aligns with USAID’s Country Development and Cooperation Strategy for Ghana in ensuring:
USAID recently extended the conflict component to consider social cohesion, early warning, chieftaincy and natural resource management and media. The Gender Officer will lead interactions with 30 Women in Agriculture Platforms (WAPS) in 30 MMDAs and 3 regional oversight bodies, to promote their livelihood activities and engagements for the participation of women in peacebuilding. Other targeted constituents are women smallholder farmers and VSLA groups in East Gonja Municipality, whose adoption of farming, environmental and economic development models impact on achieving the objectives of the Women In Shea (WiSH) Initiative. Hence, the incumbent will and use a collaborative learning method to engage community partners to develop, update and implement the project gender strategic plan to work towards gender transformative domains, to drive participation, inclusion, and responsive decision-making at all levels. S/he will support analysis of relevant national and international laws, policies, protocols and strategies for achieving gender equality and women empowerment for holistic social and economic development issues aligned to the project mandate, as well as ensure that gendered MEAL approaches (data gathering and management) are mainstreamed in the MEAL system design and implementation. The Gender Officer will report directly to the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP). S/he will be based in the Tamale Sub Office in the Northern Region and cover project implementation districts in northern Ghana. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE
