Job Description

An agri-processing company in Central Region requires a full-time Field / Production Officer to manage day to day operations. This role is for a self-starter who takes pride in his/her work and achievements. This is an ideal position for a methodical and results - oriented individual to advance and grow with this young company.

Key Tasks and Duties

  • Farmer Engagement /Stickiness – Supervise Weeding Gang activities on registered farmers’ holdings.
  • Farmer Engagement – Register new Farmers as required.
  • Farmer Engagement /Stickiness – Timetable activities over set period and communicate /follow up with farmers.
  •  Farmer Engagement /Stickiness – Admin : maintain attendance records and capture signatures on daily basis for each member of Weeding Gang working on a given day.
  • Audit Preparedness – increase knowledge base in all aspects of organic certification and citrus cultivation for professional development.
  • Audit Preparedness – build and maintain community relations with registered farmers / conduct regular stakeholder analysis to identify : those among them that are convergent with and divergent from company interests for procurement sourcing of raw fruits, traceability, quality control and certification/ potential leaders among them / those in need of additional support.
  • Audit Preparedness - Deliver organic certification standards training to staff and farmers in accordance with workplan (certification).
  • Audit Preparedness – build and maintain relations with relevant external stakeholders incl designated officials / EAs in MoFA, AAK officials, community leaders and elders (where applicable).
  • Audit Preparedness - Modalities involved in organic certification.
  • Audit Preparedness - Supervise ICS Team training in Organic Standard (certification)
  • Audit Preparedness – Farm visits, farmer training, with updates of supporting document (farmer field books / passbooks) Supervise Organic Standard (certification)
  • Audit Preparedness - Supervise Internal Inspection Team (Certification).
  • Operations / Processing Product - Monitor sourcing teams (procurement)
  • Operations / Processing Product – Active and regular input into the development of continuous improvement of systems and procedures to improve operations at the different stages of the product value /supply chain.
  • Operations / Processing Product – Active and regular input to identify and mitigate risks in the different stages of the product value / supply chain and risk management.
  • Operations / Processing Product – Onsite Quality Control of processing in the production area (production)
  • Operations / Processing Product – Onsite warehouse management (warehousing)
  • Operations / Processing Product – Oversee day to day activities of production teams at the processing site (production).
  • Operations / Processing Product – Provide inputs for workplans (sourcing and production) in conjunction with management.
  • Operations / Processing Product – Monitor out-grower farms (procurement).
  • Operations / Processing Product – Collect fruits from out-grower farms (procurement).
  • Operations / Processing Product – Maintain workers attendance register and output (quality and recording by Production Officer) and related admin (production).
  • Operations / Processing Product – Prepare written reports to management incl RECON - raw material procurement (RECON).
  • Operations / Processing Product – Finished Goods stock reconciliation – weekly/monthly and as required.
  • Operations / Facility Management– Prepare the annual maintenance and cleaning timetable of the inside of the production / warehouse building and the outside grounds within the facility compound. NOTE : to include daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly activities for cleaning and weeding as appropriate for the time of the year).

Required Skills or Experience

  • Undergraduate degree Agriculture, Forestry or Development – Essential
  • At least Three years’ work experience in Sustainability, Agriculture or Development
  • programs. Critical / Essential
  • Staff management and supervisory skills and experience Preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in Agricultural Extension and farmer training (includes GAP and GACP). Preferred
  • Community entry, community engagement and facilitation skills Preferred
  • Candidates with experience of different certification systems (Organic, RA (and former UTZ) UEBT, Fair trade) will be at a distinct advantage. Desirable
  • Experience and Knowledge of Good Warehousing Practices (including management, record keeping, hygiene and reconciliation). Desirable
  • Fluent Twi/Fante Critical / Essential
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication and facilitation skills. Critical / Essential
  • Strong Numeracy skills. Critical / Essential
  • Experience of rural business / RECON / production / processing line Desirable
  • Line Management experience - Critical
  • Team orientation and team building with good inter-personal skills Critical / Essential
  • Proficiency in MS Office – Excel and Word Critical / Essential (shortlisted candidates will be tested)
  • Ability to work under pressure with conflicting priorities and multiple deadlines. Critical
