Project Annual Outcome Survey and Smallholder Data Collection for Rainforest Alliance
Rainforest Alliance is seeking a consultant to submit proposals to conduct Project Annual Outcome Survey and Smallholder famers data collection across three Landscape in Ghana
Summary Information
- Project name: Landscape Environmental Agility across the Nation (LEAN)
- Location/s: High Forest Landscape (Western North), Transition Landscape (Bono East and Ashanti) and Savannah Landscape (Savannah and Upper East)
- Assignment: To conduct Project Annual Outcome Survey and to use Kobocollect to collect smallholder data across the three Landscapes.
- Period: Expected start date 16th September 2024 and expected end date 22nd October 2024:
- Work closely with Senior Associate Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL).
Main Objective
LEAN´s overall objective is to support national efforts to conserve biodiversity, improve the livelihoods of small-scale farmers, build climate resilience, and reduce emissions from land-use change across Ghana´s high forest, savannah, and transition zones.
The project´s specific aims are as follows:
- Support the establishment of strong, long-lasting and socially inclusive landscape governance structures in three priority landscapes.
- Reduce land degradation, prevent forest loss, increase productivity, build climate resilience, and promote natural resource conservation training for smallholder farmers within the project landscapes.
- Improve market incentives for smallholder farmers to access diversified income streams.
- Support the design and implementation of a LandScale-based Landscape Performance Management Framework.
Objectives of the Annual Outcome Survey and the Smallholder Data Collection
There are 2 main objectives of the assignment:
- to conduct Annual outcome survey
- to conduct an electronic data collection on smallholder farmers across the three Landscapes to establish progress made as against targets and build database of smallholder beneficiaries.
The specific objectives of this survey are as follows:
- Indicate the level of progress made towards the project’s main outcome indicators as of 2024 as indicated in the project’s logical framework.
- Identify the issues/risks, strength, and opportunities, for project interventions.
- Establish a database for smallholder farmers across the 3 landscapes
- Map out spatial distribution of project interventions such as additional livelihood, restoration sites, FMNR sites, demonstration farms/plots, Nurseries sites etc.
The consultant is required to measure the following outcome indicators:
- SOI.1 Number of priority landscapes with landscape-based governance structures that operate in a financially sustainable manner.
- SOI.2 Number of priority landscapes where landscape-based governance structures are implementing a Landscape Performance Management Framework
- SOI.5 Percentage of project-supported smallholders that have uptaken key CSA, FMNR and SFM practices (gender- and age-disaggregated)
- SOI.7 Percentage of smallholders that are receiving market incentives (e.g. price premiums) (gender- and age-disaggregated)
- SOI.8 Percentage of individuals (smallholders and/or their household members) employed in alternative income-generating enterprises as a result of LMB entrepreneurship and business plan development (gender- and age-disaggregated)
- SOI.8 Number of individuals (smallholders and/or their household members) employed in alternative income-generating enterprises as a result of entrepreneurship and business plan development (gender- and age-disaggregated)
- Percent of key stakeholders participating in each of the three project-supported landscape governance structures who consider it to be an effective mechanism to promote participative sustainable landscape management (gender- and age-disaggregated) and
- Establish aa database of smallholder beneficiaries across the 3 landscapes.

Required Skills or Experience
Contractor Services at a minimum, must include:
The Consultant or Consultant Firm should have the following qualifications and credentials:
- The lead consultant must have at least a master’s degree in M&E, statistics, environmental science, or social science.
- Electronic data collection and analysis expertise, including social, environmental. Thus, the team/individual must have the capacity to identify data sources, assess data quality/integrity.
- Good understanding and knowledge of the project Landscapes, speak the local language of the target populations and stakeholders and have excellent fluency in written and oral English.
- Experience with delivering high-quality products and respecting budgets and timelines.
