Job Description

A vacancy exists in our Mining Department for the position of: UNIT MANAGER - MINING

JOB PURPOSE
To manage the site Mine Planning team to meet long-term strategies and objectives of delivering quality ore to the process plant in a safe working environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage Mine Planning team to achieve departmental and mine wide production and cost targets and other requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the team and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Deliver mine plans to meet long-term strategies and objectives (which include pit optimization, pit and waste dump designs, production schedules, equipment optimization, etc).
  • Ensure short-term plans are aligned to medium-term plans.
  • Liaise with the Corporate Technical Team on mine planning related activities.
  • Undertake efficient planning of ore stockpiles to ensure uninterrupted ore supply to crushers.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement strategies to improve systems and processes as well as manage production cost effectively.
  • Ensure pit & dump engineering designs are available and meet all technical and safety requirements.
  • Ensure block models are updated and made available for planning purposes.
  • Ensure quarterly production and cost forecasts are generated and reconciled.
  • Develop production and cost KPIs to eliminate waste in cost savings strategies.
  • Communicate key and information of the business plan to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure all mine plans and designs meet statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead budgeting process and provide the production inputs for Life of Mine Plan during each budget and forecasting cycle.
  • Manage the Company’s mining and haulage contractors to ensure contract objectives are met.
  • Provide oversight responsibilities for the Mine Survey section.
  • Oversee mine production and haulage activities.
  • Mentor and develop Mine Engineers in accordance with the Department’s Succession Planning and ensure there is enough backup to fill vacant roles when incumbents move on.
  • Perform any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by supervisor

Required Skills or Experience

Knowledge

  • Must have a minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline from a recognized institution;
  • A Mine Superintendent certificate issued by the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission of Ghana would be an added advantage.
  • Must have a minimum of six (6) years’ post qualification work experience in an open pit mining environment with demonstrable leadership competencies.
  • Must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of mining safety regulations, environmental compliance, and the use of modern mining technologies.
  • Proven track record in leading large mining teams and managing complex operations.
  • Working knowledge of the Mining Act and related regulations of the Republic of Ghana, and able to interpret and apply these laws and regulations.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of relevant Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and legislative requirements.
  • Hands-on experience in mine planning software will be an advantage.
  • Ability to analyze data, develop strategies, and implement action plans that improve operational performance.
  • Strong computer literacy skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Must be results and action-oriented person.
  • Must have a valid Ghanaian license, minimum of five (5) years driving experience, and ability to drive in rough terrain.
