Job Description

  • Location: Namdini Gold Mine Site, Bolgatanga 
  • Section/ Unit: Mining Production 
  • Department: Mining 
  • Job reports to: Mining Manager or his designate 

Job Purpose
To provide technical support to mine production through effective Mine Planning, Mine Design, Mine Scheduling, Contract Management, and Cost Improvement initiatives.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver on time practical mine designs, plans and schedules to optimize the extraction of ore and waste.
  • Assist in Life of Mine and annual budget preparation to deliver the required production in a cost-effective manner in line with corporate plans.
  • Prepare monthly mine schedules and designs aligned with annual budget.
  • Monitors costs related to services provided by contractors and implements approved recommendations for maximizing operational efficiencies and continuous improvement.
  • Providing coaching, guidance, and technical support to graduate mining engineers and National Service Employee.
  • Perform end of month reconciliation for works executed by contractors for payment.
  • Assist in ore reserve estimation process.
  • Prepare three-months rolling forecast schedules considering factors such as deposit characteristics, geotechnical considerations, safety regulations and environmental impacts.
  • Support delivery of mining and cost improvement studies and projects with accurate mining engineering inputs and analysis including designs, mine plans and financials.
  • Perform any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Company as assigned by the Supervisor

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum qualification (s)

  • BSc Mining Engineering
  • At least a Mine Foreman Certificate of competency from the Inspectorate Division of Minerals Commission
  • Valid driving license

Experience (Minimum)

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in open pit mining.

Knowledge (In-depth)

  • Good working knowledge and experience in mine planning and budgeting.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of mining operations, as well as a general understanding of Geology, Processing Operations and Mine Maintenance.
  • Must be able to perform financial modelling and analysis in a mining environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of all phases of mining operations and proficiency in spreadsheet-based cash flow analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and conduct risk assessments.
  • Track record of implementing continuous improvement projects.
  • Proficient with mine planning software systems for pit optimization and designs, preferably Surpac, DataMine, MineSched, Whittle, NPVS.
  • Knowledge of MS Office suites.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Duty of Care Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations 2012 L.I. 2182, and Mining Inspection Act & Regulations.
  • Understanding of Mining Health & Safety Procedures.
