Call for Consultant to Train Clam Co-Management Committee on Conflict Management in Ada
Overview
Hεn Mpoano, in partnership with the Environmental Justice Foundation and CEWEFIA, is implementing a 3-year Sustainable Ocean Project (SOP) funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD). The project aims to build grassroots capacity for a sustainable ocean economy in Ghana through inclusive, strong, and effective capacity building, planning, and management of coastal ecosystems.
One of the project's specific objectives is to review and support the implementation of local conservation plans and co-management arrangements for the clam fishery of the Volta Estuary. To achieve this, the project seeks to enhance collaboration among various stakeholders in the Ada Clam fishery to ensure sustainable use of the resource.
Purpose of the Assignment
The primary objective of this consultancy is to equip the Clam Co-management Committee members with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to effectively manage and resolve conflicts. This training will promote collaborative decision-making, improve stakeholder relationships, and support sustainable clam management practices.
Specific Tasks
The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:
Needs Assessment:
- Conduct a preliminary assessment to identify specific conflict management needs and challenges faced by the Clam Co-management Committee.
- Engage with committee members and key stakeholders to gather insights and feedback.
Training Design and Development:
- Develop a comprehensive training program tailored to the needs of the committee.
- Prepare training materials, including presentations, case studies, and handouts.
- Design interactive and participatory training sessions to ensure active engagement and practical learning.
Expected Outputs/Deliverables:
- The consultant is expected to deliver the following:
- Needs Assessment Report: A detailed report outlining the specific conflict management needs and challenges of the Clam Co-management Committee.
- A comprehensive training curriculum, including materials and session plans.
- Delivery of training sessions as per the agreed schedule.
- A detailed post-training report, highlighting the training outcomes, evaluation results, and recommendations for further capacity building.
Required Skills or Experience
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A master's degree in conflict resolution, Social sciences, Natural resource management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in designing and delivering conflict management training programs, preferably in the context of natural resource management.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with co-management principles and practices in the Ghanaian fisheries sector.
- Experience working with community-based organizations and local governance structures.
- Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Dangbe and Ewe is an asset.
Methodology
The consultant would employ participatory and interactive training methods, including theoretical and practical hands-on sessions. Close collaboration with the project team and key stakeholders is expected. Hen Mpoano will cover logistical expenses concerning the organization of the training sessions.
Assignment Location
- Big Ada, Greater Accra Region.
Timeframe
- Starting on 7 January 2025, the consultant will spend one week preparing and two days training the co-management committee.
- Preparation of training manual and other logistics – 3 days
- Training of the co-management committee – 2 days
- Development of training report – 2 day
