The Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) is an independent regulatory body established by the NRA Act, 2015 (Act 895) and began operations in January 2016. The NRA has a statutory responsibility for regulating civilian use of nuclear and other radioactive materials and is preparing itself to regulate Ghana’s nuclear power programme.  

 

Job Description

The NRA is seeking to recruit to fill various positions in its organisational structure.  The NRA hereby invites qualified Ghanaians to apply for any of the positions listed below.

A Mechanical Piping and Welding Engineer for a nuclear regulatory body reviews designs and analysis of piping systems and associated welds that play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and safety of nuclear power plants, research reactors, and other nuclear facilities.  

Key required tasks are:  

  • Review of design of nuclear piping systems, including layout, stress analysis, and material selection and specifications to ensure they meet required standards (e.g., ASME codes) and regulatory requirements.
  • Review of analysis and simulation of piping stress analysis (e.g., with software such as CAESAR II), and the conduct of fluid transient analysis, etc.  
  • Review of welding design and welding procedures and overseeing and checking quality assurance programmes for welding operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct of inspections of piping systems in nuclear facilities to ensure proper installation, maintenance and performance, including inspections of the condition of welds. 

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum Education

  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related field.  Bachelors degree with significant experience in industrial piping systems design and welding could may be considered. 

Certifications & Knowledge

  • Welding certification and any experience in use of welding simulation tools encouraged.  Good understanding of piping engineering, stress analysis, fluid dynamics, welding processes, metallurgy, and related design codes will be an advantage. 

Experience

  • Minimum 2 - 5-years of experience in mechanical/chemical engineering with focus on piping engineering and/or welding.  Nuclear knowledge would be an advantage
