Company Profile CARE began operations in Ghana in 1994 by working to educate mining areas about sexual health and the prevention of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. CARE Ghana now works with more than 40 partner organizations to implement a portfolio of projects worth about US$9 million annually in 150 districts across the country, from our main office in Accra and sub-offices in Kumasi, Sunyani and Tamale. For 30 years, CARE has been working in Ghana to improve livelihoods and achieve social justice through interventions that address the underlying causes of poverty. Our programming focuses on food and nutrition security and social and economic empowerment, with women and youth as our impact group. Job Description
The Generating Revenues & Opportunities for Women to Improve Nutrition in Ghana (GROWING) project is being implemented by CARE International in Ghana as part of a consortium led by the International Potato Center and in collaboration with Ghana Health Service, the Women in Agriculture Development Directorate and District Directorates of Agriculture. The project is funded by Global Affairs Canada and will run for 4.5 years starting from March 2022. The GROWING Project will use an integrated agriculture-nutrition-marketing approach, coupled with strong support to transform the individual agency of women as well as the enabling environment, including gender norms and roles as well as attitudes and behaviors, so that key gender inequities are addressed and more appropriate practices initiated to ensure more equitable outcomes for women, in particular their nutritional and financial security. This will be achieved in part by organizing rural women and men in clubs that will enable trainings concerning growing and consuming more nutritious crops in a more environmentally sustainable fashion, and interventions to reduce gender inequalities concerning growing, consuming and marketing nutritious foods. CARE International in Ghana will lead the execution of activities to improve the enabling environment for empowering women, Village Savings and Loans Associations and Farmer Business Clubs. The Zonal Project Coordinator, Markets and Agri-Business has responsibility for providing technical support and facilitating the implementation of project activities in relation to input and output market linkages and agri-business development for participants of the project communities.
