Terms of Reference for engagement of service provider

For the supply of start-up kits for diversification enterprise on Bakery for smallholder farmers in the Kakum biodiversity landscape to create new small and medium scale businesses and improve farmer livelihoods.

Background

The Rainforest Alliance (RA) is creating a more sustainable world by using social and market forces to protect nature and improve the lives of farmers and forest communities.

The Rainforest Alliance and the Läderach (Schweiz) AG began collaborating in 2013 and have since implemented various phases of the 'Family Life' project in the Central Region of Ghana, around the protected biodiversity hotspot of Kakum. Through this project, significant strides have been made to empower and better the lives of local communities by improving community income through growing sustainable local enterprises. The project has focused on the following three scopes of work: improving productivity through training and coaching in best management practices, paying premiums from certification, and supporting business and income diversification. This project has also promoted the sensitisation of local cocoa-growing communities to the Worst Forms of Child Labour. 

The project is seeking to support 14 farmers in the project communities i.e. Paaso, Bobi, Nyamebekyere and Somnyamekodur with seed capital in the form of start-up kits for diversification enterprises.

In view of this, the Rainforest Alliance is inviting vendors to submit quotations for the supply of start-up kits required for Bakery enterprise.

Objective

The implementing organisation is seeking to support 14 farmers with the seed capital for Bakery enterprises in the target communities around the Kakum landscape. The service provider will be responsible for the supply and installation where necessary of the start-up kits.

Scope of Work and expected duration

The location for the supplier of the items is Ghana in the Kakum landscape consist of 4 communities located within the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District. The supplier is expected to deliver all items purchased within 15 days from the time of the agreement.

Deliverables

The specific deliverables required include the following;

  1. provide a cost of supplying Bakery enterprise start-up items and requisite equipment in appropriate areas for selected farmers. The full package required is tabled below.
