INDEPENDENT CONSULTANCY

NEW-BORN CARE ACTIVITY 

 

SCOPE OF WORK
Through USAID funding, MCGL Ghana prioritizes TCDA support to Ghana Health Service (GHS) programs to address gaps in reproductive, maternal, newborn, child health, family planning (RMNCH/FP) and nutrition outcomes. For the year 2024, MCGL received funds for the continuous implementation of RMNCHN activities to support FHD to update guidelines for safe oxygen administration for newborns, implementation of components of the Ghana Maternal and newborn acceleration plan. 
The newborn activities carried out to date resulted in, the training of providers in the helping babies survive strategy, the training and implementation of KMC in 3 district NOPs, supportive supervision for trained staff, and provision of equipment. The purpose of the 2024 newborn health consultancy is to strengthen and continue the implementation of the project activities and documentation of project work and successes made: 
 
Specific Duties include
Logistics and Organization
  • Provide inputs/reviews for the guidelines/protocols on stabilization and referral, updated newborn strategy review, and safe administration of oxygen for newborns guideline 
  • Provide inputs for final documentation of newborn work of the project 
  • Provide ongoing remote support for continuous implementation of newborn care in facilities as needed

Required Skills or Experience

  • A medical degree, with specialty in paediatrics or master’s degree in Public Health or related health area  
  • At least 5 years’ experience in public health in the northern sector of Ghana
  • Be a Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) facilitator, the in-depth knowledge outpatient care component is an advantage 
  • Some work experience with Ghana Health Service particularly the public health system
