Program overview
In Ghana RTP started operations in 2021 •addressing quality education, gender equality, and child protection needs across the country.
 
Since 2016, we have worked with Ghana’s Ministry of Education towards the shared goal of improving access to quality education integrating play-based learning as a teaching and learning methodology in basic education.
 
In 2021 the country program added to its portfolio a health program with the start up of the Sexual health and Reproductive education, extending our reach to four regions in the country (Greater Accra, Volta,Northern an Upper East).
 
We continue to deepen our education program in the Volta region while we expand in more regions such as Ashanti, Ahafo and Western North.
 
In order to achieve the expected results, the organisation is recruiting two project coordinators to be based respectively in the two districts to support the daily implementation of the project, in collaboration with the directorate of education and the school management committees of the schools.
 
JOB SUMMARY
The Project Coordinator (PC) reports directly to the Project Officer (PO) and is responsible for the implementation of Right To Play project activities and providing support and guidance to the community team in using RTP tools in the project location. The incumbent is also responsible for monitoring the project for quality delivery and effectiveness. 
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Responsibility # 1: Activity Planning and Implementation (45%)
  • Ensure comprehensive collaboration and engagement among local partners, children, young people, teachers, NGOs, community members, and stakeholders throughout project planning, implementation, and evaluation, while supporting capacity building of stakeholders’, parents, and caregivers, district education officers, head teachers
Job Responsibility #2: Monitoring and reporting (20%)
  • Ensure effective project implementation and support through the establishment of a strong coaching and mentoring support to teachers, in collaboration with district officials, for quality assessment of the teachers’ performance (teaching practices) and regular learner assessment in compliance with safeguarding, child protection and gender equality and inclusivity policies.
Job Responsibility #3: Establish and Maintain Partnerships (20%)
  • Work with local partners and stakeholders, in particular schools’ management committees and the district directorate of education to identify, select, and support key program priorities to address the needs of the community and the schools. 
Job Responsibility #4: Supervision and Guidance (10%)
  • Supervise and support teachers, mentors, and members of the school management committees in developing, implementing, and evaluating educational action plans, particularly focusing on supporting the school performance objectives.

Required Skills or Experience

EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION: EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, or any related discipline.
EXPERIENCE
  • 3 years’ experience working in project implementation and coordination, part of which should have been in training and building the capacity of adults and engaging community members.
  • At least two years working with partners in the education sector. 
COMPETENCIES / PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
  • Understanding of education principles, standard based curriculum and teaching 
  • Computer literacy in outlook, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Internet
  • Effective report writing
  • Understanding the education systems 
  • Understanding of a community-led process
  • Understanding of the concept of play-based learning
  • Understanding of child rights and child protection
LANGUAGES
  • Excellent spoken and written English and local language(s) (Ewe & Twi) in the project location
ADDITIONAL REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Experience implementing a development program with local populations in both rural and urban settings
  • Experience in training, leading workshops and teaching (must have)
  • Ability to ride and maintain a motorbike in the field  (must have)
  • Hold a valid driver’s license for motorbike (must have)
