Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Team Management:
  • Lead, manage, and coordinate the activities of the drilling team in the field, ensuring that all team members are working effectively and safely.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the drilling team, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the drilling team, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and project guidelines.

2.Supervision of Drilling Operations:

  • Supervise the preparation of borehole logs during drilling, ensuring accurate and comprehensive documentation.
  • Select appropriate drilling fluids to enhance drilling efficiency and maintain borehole stability.
  • Oversee the construction and development of wells, ensuring adherence to quality standards and project specifications

3.Supervision of Outsourced Borehole Projects:

  • Supervise the execution of borehole drilling projects managed by contractors in the field, ensuring that all work aligns with World Vision's standards and specifications.
  • Perform regular on-site inspections and audits to monitor the quality and progress of outsourced drilling activities, providing direct feedback and guidance to contractors.
  • Act as the primary point of contact in the field, coordinating closely with contractors to ensure adherence to project timelines and budgets, and promptly addressing any issues or delays to maintain smooth project execution.
4. Resource Management and Accountability:
  • Develop and implement tools for monitoring materials, fuel supplies, and consumption during drilling operations to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Monitor daily drilling expenditures, aiming to optimize cost efficiency and reduce wastage.
  • Ensure the efficient handling and maintenance of all field equipment and vehicles, maintaining them in good working condition and minimizing downtime.
5.Quality Assurance and Standards Compliance:
  • Ensure all drilling and construction activities conform to World Vision’s quality standards and safety regulations.
  • Maintain schedules for vehicle and equipment maintenance services, identifying resource needs and allocating resources accordingly.
  • Regularly review and update standard operating procedures to improve efficiency and safety in drilling operations.
6.Reporting and Documentation:
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of monthly, quarterly, annual, and other technical reports as required by the Project Manager.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all drilling activities, including site assessments, drilling logs, and project progress reports.
7.Relationship Management:
  • Maintain effective and positive working relationships with team members, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Foster a cooperative and supportive team environment, working collaboratively with a diverse group of people.
  • Represent World Vision in meetings and interactions with local authorities, community leaders, and other partners.
8. Site Selection:
  • Support in the interpretation of geophysical data to aid in the identification and selection of suitable sites for drilling operations.
  • Use geophysical data to inform and develop cost-effective drilling plans, optimizing resource use and reducing overall project costs.
  • Collaborate with the site selection team to ensure that drilling operations are aligned with the most promising and sustainable locations, enhancing the success rate of drilling projects

9.Spiritual Leadership:

  • Communicate and embody World Vision’s Christian ethos, serving as an example to others.
  • Participate and lead daily devotions, reinforcing the spiritual commitment to the mission and values of World Vision.

Required Skills or Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in drilling operations, project management, or a related field, with a focus on water well drilling and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programs.
  • Experience working in field-based roles, particularly in challenging environments, is highly desirable.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience

Required Education, Training, License, Registration and Certification

  • A Degree in Geological Science, Applied Geophysics, Geological Engineering, Hydrogeology, or Civil Engineering, with significant experience in WASH hardware. A Master’s Degree in one of the above fields is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently, demonstrating proactive initiative and innovation.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Must be a committed Christian, able to navigate denominational diversities effectively.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of drilling operations, techniques, and equipment used in water well drilling.
  • Familiarity with geophysical methods and data interpretation for site selection and drilling optimization.
  • Understanding of borehole construction, development processes, and quality standards for water facilities.
