Job Description

The Peace through Evaluation, Learning, and Adaptation Activity II (PELA II) is a five-year (2022-2027) USAID-funded Activity implemented by Khulisa Management Services Inc. and managed by the USAID/West Africa (WA) Regional Peace and Governance Office (RPGO). PELA II supports USAID/WA, its implementing partners (IPs), and stakeholders in the region with targeted monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and collaborating, learning, and adapting (CLA) services in line with the Mission’s Regional Development Objective 1 (RDO-1)- “Democracy, Peace, and Stability Enhanced.”
 
Primarily, PELA II is focused on providing requisite and relevant information, communication, and thought leadership to strengthen USAID/WA’s effectiveness in implementing projects, coordinating activities, learning from evidence-based experiences, and designing programs regarding conflict prevention, peace promotion as well as preventing or countering violent extremism (P/CVE) in the West Africa region. 
 
To effectively carry out its mandate of enhancing USAID/WA's effectiveness at CVE and promoting peace, PELA II seeks dynamic, self-motivated personnel to assist the team's communications efforts. The Communications Assistant will assist the Communications and Outreach Manager in implementing organizational communications per the approved PELA II work plans and in responding to other internal demands. The Communications Assistant will work independently and within the team to fulfill organizational goals and initiatives related to programming and events.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development of documents, including progress reports, work plans, technical reports, success stories, videos, meeting notes, factsheets, brochures, posters, and event reports. 
  • Support with content development for USAID and Khulisa social media pages 
  • Support with content development for International Observance Days
  • Support the review and refining of draft reports, technical writings, and other communications materials
  • As needed, support with conducting field visits and document success stories through interviews, short videos, photos, or other relevant data-collection tools
  • Support with visibility for PELA II before stakeholders
  • Assist with PowerPoint presentations 
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, public relations, or other field-related to international development
  • At least three years of professional experience in communication within national or international organizations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, and Photoshop or other photo/video editing tools
  • Proficiency in English and French verbal/written skills
  • Large understanding of the principles of strategic communications and enthusiasm for creating compelling communication materials
  • Demonstrable experience in media communications, including social media 
  • Possess excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team
  • Interest in the field of development, especially related to communication and branding
  • Demonstrated multitasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt to new environments and to establish/maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to exercise discretion when working with confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong attention to detail
