Project Background

The USAID funded Ghana Fiscal Accountability Strengthening Activity (FASA) will work in key areas of Ghana’s public financial management (PFM) ecosystem to enhance the accountability, transparency, and efficiency of public expenditures. After the country defaulted in 2022, significantly raising the cost of living for most Ghanaians, international and domestic attention turned to the government. Building on the foundation laid by previous reforms, FASA will partner with key Ghanaian institutions such as the Ghana Audit Service and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to raise the bar for fiscal accountability at national and subnational levels. 

Position Purpose

The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for the USAID-funded Fiscal Accountability Strengthening Activity (FASA) staff and visitors. The Driver will ensure compliance with all relevant traffic laws and regulations, maintain the vehicle in optimal condition, and contribute to a safe and efficient working environment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drive vehicles in a safe, responsible, and defensive manner, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Ensure the safety and comfort of passengers.
  • Inspect vehicles before and after each trip to identify and address any mechanical issues.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle maintenance records.
  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance tasks as required, such as checking fluids, tire pressure, and lights.
  • Schedule and accompany vehicles for regular servicing and repairs.
  • Report any vehicle damage or mechanical problems to the Logistics Officer promptly.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating travel arrangements, including route planning, obtaining necessary permits, and ensuring vehicle availability.
  • Follow established procedures for vehicle use and fuel management.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle logs, including mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance records.
  • Assist with the preparation of travel claims and expense reports.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to all passengers.
  • Assist passengers with luggage and other needs as required.

Required Skills or Experience

  • A minimum of a High School (O’ level) Certificate
  • Valid Ghanian driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience driving in urban and rural environments.
  • Proven track record of safe driving practices.
  • Knowledge of local roads and traffic conditions.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, is an advantage.
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects.
