Job Description

Position Summary
The Specialties Shift Leader will oversee the production of fruit-based products, including fruit roll-ups, fusion fruits, fruit pulp, Miracle Berries, and flavored fruit products. This role involves scaling up and enhancing existing products while driving innovation to ensure consistency and quality across all product lines. The position requires supervising both production and packing activities, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and equipment management.

Key Responsibilities
Supervision of Production and Packing Activities
  • Direct and guide production and packing staff to ensure effective and efficient processing and packaging of fruit specialties.
  • Ensure the timely availability of raw materials, ingredients, and resources required for production and packing.
  • Continuously train and coach staff to improve performance and adherence to production and packing standards.
  • Provide regular updates on production and packing progress, challenges, and achievements.
  • Oversee the proper storage of finished products and raw materials to maintain quality and safety.
  • Manage stock levels and ensure accurate inventory management to support production and packing activities.

Product Quality and Compliance:

  • Ensure that production and packing meet customer specifications and food safety standards, including texture, microbiology, moisture content, color, and additives.
  • Implement and monitor HACCP and BRC standards at both production and packing levels.
  • Ensure accurate labelling, proper traceability of products, and compliance with food safety regulations.
Equipment and Tool Management:
  • Oversee the care and handling of production and packing equipment and tools, such as pulping machines, pasteurizers, drying trays, and packaging machinery.
  • Maintain accurate stock inventory of tools and equipment; monitor functionality and report issues to technical department for repairs.
Hygiene and Housekeeping:
  • Implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and clean room standards to maintain a high level of hygiene in production and packing areas.
  • Plan and supervise the cleaning of work areas, tools, and equipment to ensure they meet hygiene standards.
Recordkeeping and Documentation
  • Manage inventory and stock transactions in SAP daily, ensuring alignment with physical stock levels.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of production and packing activities, key learnings, and best practices; maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Health, Safety, and Security:
  • Enforce health and safety protocols to protect staff and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Oversee the security of the production facility by adhering to established security procedures.
Supervisory Duties:
  • Supervise, evaluate, and provide feedback to team members to ensure they meet production and packing goals and quality standards.
  • Communicate and enforce company policies; consult with the Superintendent or other departments as needed.
  • Identify training needs, organize training programs, and administer performance appraisals.
  • Handle disciplinary actions in line with company policies.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform computer-based tasks.

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum Qualifications
  • Higher National Diploma in Food Science or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in food processing or a similar industry.
