Job Description

A reputable Civil Society Organization based in Accra with branches in all regions and selected districts in Ghana is looking for experienced and motivated health professionals to implement a new project focusing on improving maternal and child health outcomes in six regions of Ghana (North East, Northern, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, and Western regions). 

Position Overview
The Community Engagement and Behavioral Advisor will be responsible for designing and providing direction guidance and coordination of project activities, that ensure effective community mobilization and behavioral change for effective community involvement and foster behavior change to improve health outcomes in reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH). 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Guide the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the program of activities to ensure effective community engagement and mobilization. As well as behavioral change to improve health outcomes in RMNCAH in the project area
  • Lead the design and execution of community engagement strategies that promote sustainable behavior change in RMNCAH in the project area.
  • Provide leadership that facilitates follow-up of high-risk women and children to the community level and how to connect these to the health system 
  • Work closely with community leaders, health workers, and local stakeholders to foster trust and ensure community buy-in for program activities.
  • Facilitate the conduct of community outreaches, durbars, radio talk shows, in identifiable group engagements.  
  • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to community stakeholders to ensure sustainable behavior change.
  • Work with the M&E team to develop indicators for tracking the impact of community engagement and behavior change initiatives through community scorecards.
  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and make necessary reviews to improve program outcomes.
  • Collaborate with government agencies and institutions, NGOs, and international partners to align community engagement efforts with broader public health initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed reports on community engagement activities and behavior change interventions.

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s degree in public health, Social Work, Behavioral Science, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in community engagement, behavior change communication, or public health programming, with a focus on RMNCAH.

 

Skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse community stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing culturally appropriate health communication materials.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data to inform program design and decision-making.
  • Fluency in the local languages of the project area is highly desirable.
