Project HOPE, the People-to-People Health Foundation, Inc. is a US based non-profit global health organization established in 1958. It is dedicated to providing long-lasting solutions to health problems and improving the quality of life for the world’s most vulnerable people. Project HOPE has implemented more than 500 programs in over 130 countries in a wide range of healthcare areas including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), malaria, reproductive maternal new-born and child health, and non-communicable diseases. Our work has involved strengthening health systems through established functional health management information systems, supply chain management, and strengthening the health work force to improve quality and delivery of care.
Project HOPE is legally registered to operate in Ghana (registration number ET001021222) since December 2022 to conduct and support programs and activities aimed at solving some of the world’s greatest public health challenges, with a specific focus on enabling health workers to have the greatest possible impact on the health of the people they serve, strengthening and improving health systems, providing disaster and humanitarian relief and fostering and promoting health policy research and thought leadership.
Job Description

BACKGROUND ON Ghana IHP
The purpose of the USAID-funded Ghana Integrated Health Partnership (IHP) activity to strategically contribute to the Government of Ghana’s strategies to reduce preventable maternal, newborn and child deaths, including stillbirths, and improve their overall health and well-being by 2030. Activities are expected to advance Ghana toward increased localization, strengthening the capacity of Ghana institutions and local organizations to introduce, deliver, scale-up, and sustain the use of evidencebased, quality RMNCH, voluntary family planning, malaria, and global health security services. The project will increase access, utilization and quality of maternal and child health, family planning, malaria, and nutrition services to reduce preventable maternal, newborn and child deaths in northern Ghana.
POSITION SUMMARY
Project HOPE seeks a Nutrition Advisor who will provide technical support for planning and smooth operation of nutrition interventions within IHP. The Advisor will work closely with the RMNCH, SRH and FP team, donors, Ghana Health Service, and- other relevant stakeholders to support high quality implementation of nutrition interventions that are technically and clinically accurate. The position will implement high quality Nutrition specific RMNCAH interventions towards improving micronutrient supplementation, nutrition education, counselling, diagnoses and treatment of nutrition related disorders among pregnant women, newborns and children. This includes supporting nutrition education, counselling, diagnoses and treatment interventions at ANC, Intrapartum, PNC and CWC as well as other outpatient and impatient interventions. She will support the strengthening of existing BFHI facilities and support other facility attain the status of BFHI.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads nutrition assessments, designs and is responsible for implementation of program interventions, integrates nutrition activities with other programs as needed, and in compliance with national and or international standards.
- Supports proposal development, data management, and reporting; trains, and mentors providers, and coordinates with relevant actors, working groups, government bodies, other organizations, and partners.
- Responsible for leading and providing technical support and capacity building to successfully plan, implement and monitor Project HOPE nutrition program activities during emergency response.
- Ability to organize and support all aspects of the nutrition intervention including liaising with the Ghana Health Service and other international and national agencies, and donors.
- Must be able to evaluate and improve on nutrition interventions
- Integrate nutrition interventions into RMNCAH and malaria services
- Provide technical backstopping and conduct nutrition training, review program reports, surveys and monitors and evaluators reports.
- Support the revision of In-Patient Care and Out-Patient Care nutrition guidelines to align with current WHO recommendations
- Support the GHS with the development of E-learning materials for nutrition capacity strengthening
- Support the ongoing advocacy for the local production of IFA and multiple micronutrient supplementation
- Support BFHI interventions/activities within the IHP-supported facilities
- Support interventions towards counseling, diagnoses and treatment malnutrition within facilities
- Ensure proper documentation and nutrition data capture with the networks of practice
Required Skills or Experience
SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s in public health nutrition or equivalence from recognized learning institution with 5 years of experience in related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related field of study with 7 years of experience in related field
- Strong skills in technical proposal writing and donor reporting, designing and implementing nutrition programs
- Ability to provide technical support for PROJECT HOPE staff and GHS staff on effective nutrition related interventions.
- Familiarity with design and programming processes of different donors (e.g. USAID)
- Knowledge in designing and implementing appropriate and effective holistic nutrition programs including ensuring that the nutrition program is integrated MNCH and malaria activities
- Ability to work effectively with government, community leaders, international/national organizations, donors, partners and other Project HOPE relationships.
- Strong communication skills, able to effectively present information clearly and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers and headquarters staff, counterparts, senior government leaders and donors
- Strong supervisory and organizational skills
- Demonstrated experience and skills in ensuring community participation and gender issues in humanitarian programming
- Ability and willingness to travel to field
- Experience in facilitation of trainings and workshops
- Experience in writing / developing project proposals and project reports
- Fluent in written and spoken English and local languages
