Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT), a Ghanaian Christian non-governmental and mission organization contributing to the “Great Commission” by means of Language development, Literacy and Bible translation is inviting applications from matured Christians with a call of God and managerial skills to join their hospitality  Unit.

Vision of GILLBT: The members of GILLBT have the common desire to have the Holy Bible, the Word of God, known to every person in their own language.

Mission Statement: In obedience to the Great Commission, GILLBT exists to provide access to the Word of God in the mother tongue to language groups in Ghana and beyond, in partnership with others through Academic Research, Bible translation, Scripture-in-use, Literacy, Language Development, and Training.

Job Description

GILLBT is inviting applications from mature Christians with the call of God, leadership skills, and management experience, to lead a Bible Translation Organisation to achieve its goals and objectives for Ghana and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight responsibility for all operations within GILLBT, including the spiritual and strategic corporate direction for the Organization, and compliance with all local and international statutory requirements
  • Organise and chair Executive Leadership Team (ELT) meetings
  • Undertake appraisals for the Heads of Directorates
  • Develop policy proposals and carry out strategic planning for the organization and ensure that strategic plans are regularly reviewed, updated and implemented, and develop and monitor the organisation’s annual corporate budget and workplan
  • Lead resource mobilization (fundraising)
  • Attend International Bible Translation Organisations’ meetings i.e. Wycliffe Bible Translation, SIL International and any other international conferences as invited.
  • Maintain and manage relationships and communication with strategic partners, e.g. donors, churches, universities, government agencies etc.
  • Act as GILLBT’s representative in all interactions with individual donors, churches, government bodies, and other institutions in the country
  • Represent GILLBT to partner organisations and stakeholders in Ghana and abroad, including attending international Bible Translation Organisations’ meetings and other international conferences on behalf of GILLBT
  • Lead implementations of language policies; visiting and strengthening language projects, and providing leadership in Consultant Development

Supervisory roles:

  • Reports directly to the Board of Directors

Directly supervises:

  • Director for Field Programmes Department
  • Director for Operations Department
  • Director for Advancement Department
  • Director for Finance Department

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s Degree with a minimum of 10 years work experience at the Managerial Level
  • Ability to manage people and Projects in cross-cultural settings
  • Should be a Bible believing Christian
  • Willingness to live and work in both Tamale and Accra
  • Ability to work long hours with minimum supervision
  • Have a firm understanding of, and experience working in the NGO context, especially the Christian one, in both the international and the local environment
  • Ability to maintain relationships with all GILLBT Stakeholders and develop new ones
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills
