Job Description

Position Summary
The Field Enumerator plays a vital role in the data collection initiatives, executing structured household surveys and engaging with communities to obtain precise and dependable data. Under the direction of the Field Data Collection Supervisor, the Field Enumerator is responsible for gathering data while strictly adhering to project protocols, upholding ethical standards, and building positive relationships with local residents to encourage cooperation and mutual understanding. This position demands exceptional interpersonal skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the capability to work effectively in remote locations.
 
Primary Responsibilities
  • Data Collection: Conduct structured household interviews, community surveys, and direct observations using mobile data collection tools to gather high-quality, accurate data.
  • Community Engagement: Educate communities about the data collection process, sensitizing households to the project’s purpose while building trust and cooperation.
  • Protocol Compliance: Follow strict data collection protocols and guidelines to ensure consistency, accuracy, and high-quality standards throughout fieldwork.
  • Field Documentation: Document daily activities, observations, and field challenges, and communicate findings to the Field Data Collection Supervisor.
  • Data Privacy and Ethical Standards: Ensure strict compliance with data privacy and ethical standards in all interactions and data handling processes.
  • Logistical Management: Support logistical arrangements for field activities, managing equipment and supplies to ensure readiness for field operations.
  • Problem Resolution: Proactively report and assist in resolving technical or logistical issues encountered in the field to ensure efficient operations.
  • Training Participation: Actively participate in training sessions on data collection tools, methodologies, and protocols to align with project goals.

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Social Sciences, Community Development, Data Collection); coursework in data collection methodologies or community engagement is advantageous.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in community-based data collection or similar fieldwork, especially in rural or remote settings. Familiarity with mobile data collection methods is a strong asset.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in local languages to facilitate effective community engagement and communication.
  • Technical Competency: Proficient or willing to learn mobile data collection tools; ability to troubleshoot minor technical issues in the field.
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, engaging professionally with diverse community members.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform fieldwork in outdoor and remote locations, including extensive walking and household visits.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to data recording and reporting accuracy, with a commitment to data quality.
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience with reputable data collection or field research organizations.
  • Understanding of rural community dynamics, cultural sensitivities, and local protocols.
  • Exposure to international data collection standards and best practices in community sensitization.
