Job Description

Position Overview
As a Field Carbon Monitor, you will oversee carbon sequestration activities, monitor land use practices, and collect field data. This role involves direct collaboration with local farmers and communities to help build a sustainable future.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Farmer Onboarding: Register farmers, educate them about the SikaFields Project, and maintain ongoing engagement.
  • Data Collection & Mapping: Collect accurate data and map farmland using Insyt software, ensuring data privacy and boundary accuracy.
  • Tree Monitoring: Tag and assess tree conditions (alive, damaged, dead) across sample plots in assigned locations.
  • Carbon Measurement Techniques: Apply techniques to measure carbon in soils, biomass, or emissions (e.g., soil sampling, remote sensing).
  • Understanding of Carbon Accounting Standards: Demonstrate familiarity with globally recognized carbon accounting frameworks such as Open Forest Protocol (OFP), Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Gold Standard, and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
  • Collaboration and Reporting: Work closely with local communities and farmers, assist in preparing reports, and support project evaluation.
  • Continuous Onboarding: Engage and onboard new farmers within designated zones to expand the project’s reach.

Required Skills or Experience

Selection Criteria:
  • Educational Background: Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Field Experience: Minimum of 2 years in GIS-based farm mapping or data collection within agroforestry/agricultural settings.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in GPS, remote sensing, and mobile data collection applications.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to work in remote areas, often requiring long-distance travel on foot.
  • Attention to Detail: High accuracy in collecting and recording data.
  • Regional Knowledge: Applicants must be indigenous to Bono East, Bono, Ashanti, or Western / Western North regions for familiarity with local land use and community dynamics.
