Job Description Background
The Feed the Future Ghana Trade and Investment (GTI) Activity seeks to improve the enabling environment of Ghana’s economic growth by (1) facilitating growth in export-oriented trade; (2) improving and developing product standards; (3) catalyzing investments in private enterprises related to high-value commercial crops; (4) promoting job creation, particularly among women and youth; (5) promoting economic diversification; and (6) increasing foreign exchange revenues from high-value export crops. GTI will help invest in firms that trade goods across borders, spur innovation, and build the capability of the entire trade sector.
Over twenty-five SMEs working with GTI have identified branding and packaging as challenges hindering their ability to remain competitive and expand into new markets. These SMEs recognize that they struggle to differentiate their products from competitors without robust, distinctive branding and packaging that meets international standards. This lack of differentiation limits their appeal to consumers and restricts their ability to access lucrative export markets, where product presentation and perceived quality are critical to success. Some of these SMEs are Gyarko Farms, and Ghana Nuts Company, who produce/process shea, groundnut, chili, cashew, and mango, have identified inadequate branding and packaging as a major setback in scaling their operations, increasing sales, and boosting their revenues. Addressing these branding and packaging challenges is crucial for the businesses to grow, achieve long-term sustainability, and substantially impact their respective industries.
Objective
The primary objective of this consultancy is to enhance the branding and packaging of three respective agribusinesses to increase their sales and export opportunities. The consultant will provide expert guidance and technical assistance to ensure that their produce/products meet international standards, effectively differentiate themselves in the market, and appeal to local and global target consumers.
Key Responsibilities
The consultant will provide branding and packaging technical support that reflects the background and objectives of this assignment. The consultant will execute the following:
Deliverables
1. Identification of branding and packaging needs of businesses.
2. Detailed branding and packaging design solutions for the businesses, including mock-ups and material recommendations.
3. Sign off of the branding and packaging design solutions by the businesses.
Level of Effort
This assignment will be carried out over a period of 15 days with a five-day work week.
Period of Performance
The consultancy is proposed to take place between November and December 2024, with the commencement and completion dates to be agreed upon between GTI and the consultant.
Location and Reporting The location for this work is Accra and Tamale, Ghana. The consultant will report to and work closely with GTI’s Market Development Specialist. Required Skills or Experience
