International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) (www.cocoainitiative.org) is a multi-stakeholder organization, uniting the forces of civil society, certifiers, the cocoa and chocolate industry, and international institutions, and working with governments to address child and forced labour in the cocoa sector.

ICI has developed a Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS) that allows industry partners to manage responsibly the risk of child labour in their cocoa supply chain. In line with the Ghana Child Labor Monitoring System (GCLMS), the system is based on the presence of Community Facilitators (CF) within cocoa-growing communities who raise awareness on the issue of child labour; identify cases and implement remediation activities. Established in 2002, the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) is a leading organisation promoting child protection in cocoa-growing communities. ICI works with the cocoa industry, civil society and national governments in cocoa-producing countries to ensure a better future for children and contribute to the elimination of child labour.

Job Description

As part of ICI’s objectives to eliminate the worst forms of child labour and forced labour in the cocoa sector and its overall programme to promote children’s rights and child protection in the cocoa supply chain, ICI seeks to engage an Office Driver for the Country Office in Ghana in Accra. The driver will be responsible for facilitating travel to support and implement projects. and ensure efficient workflow in pursuit of the ICI objectives for the country Office in Ghana. S/he will work across all projects in ICI Ghana.

Main tasks and responsibilities
Based at the national level, under the authority of the Country Director and direct supervision of the HR/Admin. Manager, the incumbent will:

Drive ICI team  

  • It is the Driver’s responsibility to ensure the safety of all passengers in his vehicle on any trip.
  • Drive ICI team to Regional, District and community to implement activities 
  • Drive ICI team and visitors on field missions within Ghana safely.
  • Drive ICI staff to meetings on time
  • Verify security information for the journey and destination before departure and arrival and advise staff accordingly
  • Run official errands for the office.

Good records keeping and adherence to road safety measures 

  • Complete vehicle log book whenever the vehicle is moved.
  • Take accurate records of mileage and fuel bought
  • Take records of number of field missions and meetings driving ICI staff.

Compliance with road safety rules

  • Comply with road safety measures (No over speeding, wrong overtaking, etc)
  • Ensure prompt renewal of road worthy certificate for the vehicle before it is expired
  • Ensure prompt renewal of driving license
  • Ensure the renewal of vehicle insurance by sending alerts to Admin. Assist.

Maintain the ICI vehicle and ensure it is always in good condition

  • With approval, send vehicle for regular and routine maintenance
  • Bodily maintenance of vehicle by uundertake daily cleaning of outside and inside of the vehicle
  • Ensuring the safety of vehicle by parking at safe and secure place
  • Ensuring the replacement of necessaries like fire extinguisher, triangle, first aid-box, battery cable, spare tyre, etc.) in the Vehicle.

Financial approval for all transactions:

  • Seek approval for vehicle maintenance at least 3 days before it is due
  • Seek approval for maintenance and purchase of fuel to the vehicle
  • Liquidate all expenses at most 3 working days after the activity is done

Required Skills or Experience

Education and work experience
Essential:

  • Applicant should hold at least a Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) qualification. A Senior High School (SHS or SSS) qualification is preferable.
  • He should possess a minimum of 3 years’ experience in long-journey driving and professional driving experience, preferably in a corporate environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Familiarity with [city/region] routes and traffic patterns.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of child protection and/or child labour
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with partners and staff.
  • Ability to work under pressure, well organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across cultures, including with team members and those based in other countries.

Languages

  • Fluency in written and spoken English, and a Ghanaian language preferably Twi.

Skills

  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good skills in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
