JOB SUMMARY
To directly manage the operational and fiscal activities of the GIS/Survey Section including planning and development of systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the Section through supervision of the staff in accordance with the Company Policies and Procedures to ensure that all the Company acquired lands are accordingly surveyed, maintained and monitored per extant legal regulations and Socfin’s requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the operational and fiscal activities of the survey Section with respect to the following:
- Preparation, management and maintenance of PSG’s GIS database systems ensuring the validity and integrity of all outputs.
- Creating and maintaining structures necessary for GIS data storage.
- Collecting and capturing standard GIS data and developing maps for the GIS database to create, amongst other outputs, static and dynamic maps for surveys and censuses.
- Manipulate and present geographical information by developing programs to convert GIS information to other formats.
- Integrate different geo-spatial data resources.
- Analyse and integrate GIS data with other data sources to assess relationships across a wide range of socio-demographic, spatial, environmental, and economic variables which includes coordination with departments/units such as Roads, Community, and Workshop etc.
- Assist Sustainability on all sustainability related requests and activities.
- Prepare monthly reports to the Plantations manager.
- Manage overall production of maps and analysis of production data and preparation of annual (and periodic) maps as maybe directed by the Socfin’s cartographer.
- Carry out Biannual monitoring of all boundaries and other demarcation work in the company’s field and ensure reports are submitted duly to the plantation manager.
- Actively carry out deforestation, fire alert ground-truthing and any related EUDR compliance activities, when required.
- Actively a key team member of the HCV Management and monitoring unit and Remediation plan implementation team providing requisite support to meet the company’s HCV management objectives.
- Prepare survey maps of the residential areas of the Company and assist the Construction Department for drainage related matters in residential areas of the Company.
- Required to exercise diligence, honesty, integrity and loyalty to the company throughout the employment period.
- Responsible and accountable for any losses that the company may sustain as a result of negligence and/or bad job performance.
- Required to abide by the policies, regulations and operating procedures that the company shall from time to time put into place for the effective and efficient performance of its operations.
- Document, standardize, implement and monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all Survey operations.
- Plan and develop systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the Section.
- Supervision of Staff:
- Responsible for staff scheduling and supervision including but not limited to: work assignments/rotations, employee training, employee leaves, overtime assignment, employees discipline.
- Ensure timesheets are completed when due
- Mandate and monitor adherence to all Company Policies and Procedures
- Responsible for Mustering the Survey workers at 6:00 am and taking them to the field to ensure 8 hours of productive work.
- Attend and provide routine training and assessments for allied staff from other departments on GIS, when required.
- Establish employee goals and conduct employee performance reviews.
- Responsible for safety of self and others working in team and full adherence to the environmental, health and safety management system of the company.
- Shall provide support and reports pursuant to the company’s obligations under RSPO.
- To perform any other duties assigned, not exceeding competence and capacities, by the Plantations Development Manager and the Managing Director as and when the situation demands.

Required Skills or Experience
EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
- Degree in Survey and Geoinformatics, GIS, Geo-informatics, Geography, Remote Sensing, Geodetic Engineering, Geology, or related subject;
- National Service Certificate.
- Good ‘people’ management

ATTITUDE
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Highly proficient in all applicable GIS software such including but not limited to ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, MapInfo, Google Earth, Avenza, Drone mapping softwares etc
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft word, excel, and the internet i.e. e-mail, outlook and spread sheet), handheld equipment such as Drones, GPS and programming skills with tools such as SQL.
- Knowledge of data collection applications is an added advantage
- Proficient in the piloting of Drone pilot with certification being added advantage
- Familiarity with survey legislation and regulatory contacts will be a plus.
- High competence in developing and preparing technical progress reports.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of four (4) years post qualification working experience in case of a degree holder and six (6) years post qualification working experience for a Diploma holder in supporting the management of the Survey section of a corporate (preferably an agro-industrial) entity
