Job Summary
The Mechanical/Pump Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, retrofitting or repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, electric motors, and related equipment. The technician ensures that all mechanical systems operate efficiently, minimize downtime, and maintain safety standards. The role will function in industrial, commercial production, and manufacturing environments that rely on pumps and valves for fluid or gas transfer, circulation and control.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Commissioning: Install, configure, and start-up mechanical systems, including pumps, electric motors, valves, and related components according to specifications.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Perform regular maintenance and emergency repairs on pumps, mechanical equipment, and systems to ensure maximum performance and prevent system failure.
- Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults in pumps, motors, valves, and related components to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
- Inspection & Testing: Inspect mechanical systems and equipment for wear and tear, and perform testing to verify that all systems are functioning as intended.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and system performance.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, industry regulations, and company procedures to maintain a safe working environment
Required Skills or Experience
Education
- HND or equivalent; vocational training or certification in mechanical technology or a related field is preferred.
- Formal certification in pump systems, mechanical maintenance, or industrial mechanics (e.g., NVTI Mechanical Technician, Pump Systems Maintenance certification) is highly advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of 2-5 years of hands-on experience in pump maintenance, mechanical systems, or related fields.
- Experience working with various types of pumps, including centrifugal, gear, diaphragm, and reciprocating pumps.
- Familiarity with installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair procedures for mechanical systems
Technical Skills
- Pump Systems: In-depth knowledge of various types of pumps (centrifugal, diaphragm, piston, screw, etc.), including their components, operation, and maintenance.
- Mechanical Systems Troubleshooting: Strong ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues related to pumps, motors, and associated systems.
- Fluid Mechanics: Understanding of fluid dynamics, pressure systems, and fluid flow to optimize pump performance.
- Hydraulics & Pneumatics: Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and the ability to maintain and troubleshoot these systems.
- Motor and Motor Control: Familiarity with electrical motors, motor controllers, and drives used in pump systems.
- Welding and Fabrication: Basic knowledge of welding, brazing, and other metalworking techniques for pump repairs or custom parts fabrication.
- Measurement Tools: Proficient in using diagnostic tools such as pressure gauges, flow meters, vibration analyzers, multimeters, and other mechanical testing equipment.
- Blueprint and Technical Drawing Reading: Ability to interpret mechanical schematics, pump system diagrams, and technical drawings for installation and repair.
