Job Description

As the leading global partner for the Momentum Country and Global Leadership program, MCGL is a five-year USAID funded global award that works with country governments and local non-governmental organizations to provide targeted technical and capacity development assistance.  

MCGL builds upon existing evidence and best practices and catalyzes innovations that enable government-led partnerships to deliver high-quality, evidence-based interventions that accelerate reductions in maternal, newborn, and child mortality and morbidity at scale. The project also contributes to global technical leadership, learning, and USAID’s policy dialogue to achieve global maternal, newborn, and child health, voluntary family planning, and reproductive health (MNCH/FP/RH) goals by supporting globally endorsed initiatives, strategies, frameworks, guidelines, and action plans. 

Project Overview
The Momentum Country and Global Leadership program, implemented by Jhpiego and partners, is a five-year USAID funded global award that works with country governments and local non-governmental organizations to provide targeted technical and capacity development assistance.  MOMENTUM builds upon existing evidence and best practices and catalyzes innovations that enable government-led partnerships to deliver high-quality, evidence-based interventions that accelerate reductions in maternal, newborn, and child mortality and morbidity at scale. 

We are currently seeking to fill the following position to support the project’s technical program in Ghana:

I. MCGL Family Planning

Job Summary
The FP Technical Officer will assist the project team in working with Ghana Health Service and other relevant stakeholders to implement key activities at the national and site level.  This will include assisting with the development of work plans, liaising with staff, other partners and rolling out activities, reporting, leading capacity strengthening activities and mentorship. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide FP technical assistance on capacity development activities within the designated program regions. 
  • Assist with the design implementation, monitoring and assessment of activities. 
  • Write/produce project monitoring tracking matrices and relevant reports as required. 
  • Work closely with technical lead and program staff to ensure quality implementation of programs 
  • Conduct training and technical site assessments of health facilities in collaboration with GHS
  • Assist in the development of new program approaches that are linked to related services  
  • Work with GHS and stakeholders to implement on the job trainings, maintain services, and on-site mentoring and supportive supervision 
  • Support clinical training and supportive supervision of staff and counterparts as necessary
  • Support and guide Jhpiego’s monitoring, evaluation and research activities
  • Perform other duties as necessary or as assigned 

 

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience, Abilities and Skills
  • Be a Midwife with substantial MNH and FP experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) or equivalent experience in midwifery and public health nurse.
  • Demonstrated experience working with USAID programs and strong familiarity with USG reporting requirements. 
  • 5+ years’ experience in management, operational and technical expertise with a preference in FP programming in public facilities 
  • Knowledge/Experience of project regions. 
  • Practical knowledge of major Family Planning global best practices as well as implementation of FP programs in Ghana
  • Experience in public health, data use and mentorship. 
  • Experience working with international and local donor agencies and program implementing organizations (NGOs).  
  • Familiarity with Ghana health systems and reporting structure and demonstrated ability to collaborate with government level officials to strengthen program implementation 
  • Demonstrated ability in working and collaborating with a wide range of local and international partner organizations 
  • Excellent skills in facilitation, mentorship, capacity development, team building and coordination 
  • Excellent writing and communications skills, including demonstrated technical writing skills for publication 
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse international teams and willingness to learn and empower others 
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform  
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to implementation regions and health facilities  
  • Familiarity and experience working with Zoom and other virtual platforms
