Job Description

Project Overview
Jhpiego in collaboration with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints seeks to use a collaborative approach to implement a project aimed at improving and sustaining the capacity of secondary level hospitals and their referral hospitals, in the Eastern Region to care for maternal and newborn complications at birth, and small and vulnerable newborns. 
 
The Project requires the services of Mentors to lead onsite activity implementation.

Job Summary
The Mentor will assist the LDSC Project team, Ghana Health Service high volume facilities and other key stakeholders to provide technical and clinical support for maternal and newborn care activities being implemented at regional and district hospitals. The role includes providing technical guidance for program implementation, assisting with developing workplans, engaging facility leadership in planning and implementation, and partnering with relevant health sector actors to ensure quality and efficient delivery of activities. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to capacity development activities within the designated facilities
  • Provide clinical mentorship for maternity and NICU staff on essential knowledge and skills for maternal and newborn survival including Essential Care for Labour and Birth, Bleeding after birth Complete, Pre-Eclampsia/Eclampsia and helping babies survive modules.
  • Assist with the design implementation, monitoring and assessment of activities. 
  • Develop project and activity reports and contribute to external programmatic reports and knowledge products as required. 
  • Work closely with LDSC program team members to ensure quality implementation of programs 
  • Conduct training and technical site assessments of health facilities in collaboration with partners 
  • Work with GHS and other implementing partners to implement on the job trainings, maintain services, and on-site mentoring and supportive supervision 
  • Perform other duties as necessary or as assigned 

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications
  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in midwifery or nursing with neonatal experience. 
  • Advanced specialized qualification will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrated knowledge of RMNCAH program implementation in Ghana
  • Experience and previous working knowledge with HMS modules and Newborn care activities REQUIRED. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with USAID and or other development partners. 
  • 5+ years’ experience in management, operational and technical expertise with a preference in public health and RMNCAH program implementation 
Abilities/Skills
  • Familiarity with Ghana health systems and reporting structure and demonstrated ability to collaborate with government level officials to strengthen program implementation 
  • Demonstrated ability in working and collaborating with a wide range of local and international partner organizations 
  • Excellent skills in facilitation, mentorship, capacity development, team building and coordination 
  • Excellent writing and communications skills, including demonstrated technical writing skills for publication.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and willingness to learn and empower others. 
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to implementation facilities.
  • Familiarity and experience working with Zoom and other virtual platforms
