Job Description

  • Reports To: SBC Specialist/WASH Specialist
Global Communities, a Non-Governmental Organization is seeking an experienced professional to fill the position of BCC Officer for the 1-year USAID funded WASH in Low-Cost Private Schools (WinLCPS) project. This project aims at providing adequate and sustainable access to water, sanitation, menstrual hygiene education and other hygiene services to private low-cost schools and encouraging the adoption of improved hygiene practices by students and staff. WinLCPS will focus on targeted private low-cost schools in the Northern, North-East, Upper West and Upper East regions of Ghana.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The SBC Officer will be actively involved in the SBC team activities in the WinLCPS program target areas by supporting the SBC and WASH Specialists with the following:
  • Contributing to the design and implementation of suitable and relevant SBC strategies and its related components throughout the project duration.
  • Participating in the development of multi-channel and multi-phase WASH campaigns in the private low-cost schools.
  • Participating in the capacity building of staff and students to sustainably and hygienically use the WASH facilities provided under the WinLCPS
  • Facilitate the promotion of menstrual hygiene management among staff and students in the private low-cost schools.
  • Facilitate the promotion of other hygiene behaviors such as handwashing practice among staff and students in the private low-cost schools.
  • Contributing to the development of SBCC materials using inputs from project stakeholders.
  • Compile weekly, monthly and quarterly activity reports
  • Liaising with the SBC and WASH Specialists on any other duties assigned.

Required Skills or Experience

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A first degree in Public Health, Development Studies, Communications, Psychology or equivalent certification in General Nursing.
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience, with a minimum of 1 year in a public sector institution (e.g. CWSA, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, etc.) preferably on hygiene promotion programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of WASH-related issues within the context of rural and urban communities.
  • Understanding of menstrual hygiene management, and the impact of gender status and relationships on WASH practices.
  • Proficiency in English (both oral and written) and one local language is required.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office Suite (especially Excel, Access and similar database software)

  • Ability to establish and sustain interpersonal and professional relationships with project partners, direct reports and local CBOs
  • Excellent analytical and training/facilitation skills 
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented setting
