Galiano Gold Inc. is a dual listed (New York, Toronto) company focused on exploration, mine development and mine operations.
Asanko Gold Mine, a subsidiary of Galiano Gold Inc. is a multi- complex mine with four main open-pits and multiple satellite deposits, situated on the Asankrangwa Gold Belt.
The Asanko Gold Mine processing plant has been designed as a 5.5Mtpa processing facility with future expansion prospects.

Job Description

The role will develop, deliver, conduct, assess and evaluate mandatory and required theoretical and practical HSE training administered to new employees, contractors and daily hire staff, on all Health, Safety and environment trainings / topics, for Learning and Development (L&D) orientation and specific HR training.

Key Responsibilities
Training, Planning and Preparation

  • Assist with staff training development needs and identification.
  • Develop lesson plans, according to the Health and Safety topic presented.
  • Investigate, research, design and build training materials relating to Health and Safety in the mine environment.
  • Assist in the revision of existing training topic material.
  • Develop effective induction programmes and deliver technical hazards training programs such as confined space entry training, safe work at height, lockout tagout and try out, chemical awareness.
  • Develop and implement human resource planning policies and procedures involving identification of high potential employees.
  • Design a succession planning system, and establishment of a career development system to systematically prepare people to assume higher responsibility.
  • Develop and deliver safety piece in the labour pool program.
  • Coordinate labour pool programmes and organize logistics for the program.

Training Assessments

  • Train and assess both Asanko employees and contractors, in accordance with approved and prescribed Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd. Health and Safety principles.
  • Assess experienced employees to establish current levels of competency.
  • Identify competency gaps arising from the assessment and recommend appropriate level of training that will be required.
  • Maintain complete training record rosters of all classroom training given, in accordance with Asanko and Organizational Capability Department requirements.
  • Assist with the evaluation of existing Asanko Health and Safety training programs.
  • Assist and guide the participants who cannot read and write properly to understand questions to be able choose the correct answer.

Training Syllabus

  • Assist in the development of Health and Safety modules and related training materials.
  • Assist in the development of HR and other related training modules.
  • Adhere strictly to the training policies of Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd and align to global training standards.

Training Execution

  • Emphasize the importance of Health and Safety in all aspects of the delivery of training to drive the culture of Zero Harm.
  • Conduct general inductions and other relevant mandatory Health and Safety trainings for both new hires and contractors.
  • Conduct both instructor-led and face-to-face Health and Safety training for employees and contractors.
  • Conduct Health and Safety refresher training for current employees and contractors.
  • Ensure all training records are entered in Sage and training assessments are properly filed.

Training Evaluations

  • Prepare and present reports on training outcomes for the Training Center-Organizational Capability Department.
  • Monitor progress of employees and contractors (on the field) and provide ongoing training and instruction, as required.
  • Give feedback to contractors on various trainings.
  • Prepare training reports on weekly.

Required Skills or Experience

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • A Bachelor’s degree in People Development or a related field from a recognized university. A professional certification in Training & Development (e.g., CIPD, ATD) as an advantage.

Additional Knowledge

  • Workplace Trainer and Assessor Certification is preferable.
  • Health, Safety & Environment Officer Certification (MINCOM).
  • Sound theoretical, practical knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety principles in a large-scale gold mining project.
  • Sound knowledge of competency-based curricula.
  • Considerable knowledge and practices of training and development are essential.
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license and proficiency in driving light vehicles.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an instructional training and delivery environment, preferably with a Health and Safety background.
