Job Description
As a Field Engineer at African Towers, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and installation of telecommunication towers across specific regions or territories. You will work closely with our technical teams to support network infrastructure and ensure compliance with safety standards and operational protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Tower Inspections and Maintenance:
- Conduct routine inspections of telecommunication towers to assess structural integrity, equipment functionality, and compliance with safety regulations.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance of tower equipment and components.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to tower infrastructure and communication equipment.
- Utilize automation tools to reduce manual tasks.
- Ensure timely completion of all field operation tasks.
- Maintains AC power availability of 99.97% and DC power availability of 100% at all times.
- Prepares and submits quarterly reports to NOC and the Operations Manager.
- Attends to all emergencies and escalations
Installation and Commissioning:
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new telecommunication towers and associated equipment.
- Ensure that installations are completed according to specifications and industry standards.
- Conduct site surveys and prepare reports on site conditions, equipment requirements, and installation timelines.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols during all field operations.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies related to tower operations and maintenance.
- Implement and promote best practices for occupational health and safety in the field.
- Undertakes preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance in their area of operations.
- Maintains site security level at the optimum and proposes solutions where requested.
- Monitor and report on risk-related issues.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment inventory.
- Prepare detailed reports on findings, recommendations, and project progress.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders regarding project updates and operational issues.
- Prepares and submits quarterly reports to NOC and the Operations Manager.
- Submits reports on power data on every site visited to the NOC
- Generate regular reports on operational metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Team Collaboration and Stakeholder Support
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project managers, engineers, and technicians to achieve project objectives.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians and subcontractors as needed.
- Address and resolve customer and stakeholder inquiries and issues promptly.
- Maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders.
- Maintains contact with all departmental and other line managers on matters concerning budgeting and invoices
- Supervises immediate team members to ensure that set standards are achieved.
