Job Description

Rainforest Alliance is seeking a consultant to submit proposals to conduct a Local review of the results captured in the Landscale Platform across four landscapes (Sui River, Transition, West Gonja and Kassena Nankana West) in Ghana.

Summary Information

  • Project name: Landscape Environmental Agility across the Nation (LEAN)
  • Location/s: High Forest Landscape (Western North), Transition Landscape (Bono East and Ashanti) and Savannah Landscape (Savannah and Upper East)
  • Assignment: To conduct a review of results on the Landscale platform across the four landscapes.
  • Period: Expected start date 1st April 2025 and expected end date 2nd May 2025:
  • Work closely with Senior Associate Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL).

Consultancy Summary

In line with this vision, RA has been implementing the LEAN project since November 2020 in partnership with World Vision Ghana, Tropenbos Ghana, and EcoCare Ghana. The European Union co-funds the project through its flagship GCCA+ Initiative.

Main Objective

LEAN´s overall objective is to support national efforts to conserve biodiversity, improve the livelihoods of small-scale farmers, build climate resilience, and reduce emissions from land-use change across Ghana´s high forest, savannah, and transition zones.

The project´s specific aims are as follows: 

  1. Support the establishment of strong, long-lasting and socially inclusive landscape governance structures in three priority landscapes.
  2. Reduce land degradation, prevent forest loss, increase productivity, build climate resilience, and promote natural resource conservation training for smallholder farmers within the project landscapes.
  3. Improve market incentives for smallholder farmers to access diversified income streams.
  4. Support the design and implementation of a LandScale-based Landscape Performance Management Framework.

Objectives of the Assignment.

The objective of the assignment is to review the work done by the Assessment teams for Sui River, Transition, West Gonja and Kassena Nankana West Landscapes.

The specific objectives of this survey are as follows:

  1. Review the results captured by the Assessment team to determine whether the results reflect the situation on the ground in the various Landscapes.
  2. Provide comments if any for redress.
  3. Provide recommendations, if any.

The consultant will review four (4) Pillars indicators and metrics:

  1. Ecosystems
  2. Human Well-Being
  3. Governance, and
  4. Production

General terms and conditions for Request for proposal

  • Proposals and/or any additional information received after the submission time and date are subject to rejection by The Rainforest Alliance. Incomplete proposals may be rejected by RA at its discretion.
  • Rainforest Alliance reserves the right to request additional information at any time during the procurement process.
  • RA is at liberty to make multiple or no selections as part of the proposal process. RA also reserves the right to cancel the procurement.
  • All proposal costs shall be borne by the applicant and will not be reimbursed by RA.

Required Skills or Experience

The Consultant or Consultant Firm should have the following qualifications and credentials: 

  • The lead consultant must have at least a master’s degree in Natural Resource Management, M&E, statistics, environmental science, or social science.
  • Should have experience working on electronic platforms.
  • The team/individual must have the capacity to identify data sources and assess data quality/integrity.  
  • The team should be comprised of experts in Ecosystems, Human Well Being, Governance and Production.
  • A firm/team has ever collected data for the Project can not bid for this assessment.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the project landscapes, speak the local language of the target populations and stakeholders and have excellent fluency in written and oral English.
  • Experience with delivering high-quality products and respecting budgets and timelines.

Proposal Process and Format

  • The letter of interest and technical and financial proposal should be sent by email to ghanaoffice@ra.org by 4th April, 2025, at the latest.
  • A letter of interest summarising the reason why you should be selected for this consultancy.
  • A Technical proposal not more than 15 pages detailing the consultant(s) understanding and interpretation of the ToR, expertise and record of accomplishment, proposed methodology/ approach to carry out this assignment, Assignment plan, abridged CVs of proposed personnel you intend to use for this assessment excluding enumerators. 
  • A financial proposal outlining a detailed budget that specifies the professional fees and any other related costs to be incurred by the consultant(s) during this assignment. Please note that the contract price will be fixed, irrespective of fluctuations in the cost components. The proposed budget should itemise all relevant expenses, such as transportation, professional fees, accommodation, stationery, etc. An additional column could be included in the budget to assist the evaluation team in understanding the purpose of each item.
  • The financial proposal should be calculated in US dollars ($), including all taxes and duties.
  • Contact details of recent references (at least 2), including email, contact person’s name and phone number.
