Job Description

- Direct Reports: Senior Metallurgist (2)
Job Purpose
The role of the Metallurgical Superintendent is to provide leadership and direction to the technical operations group and assume responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the Namdini Gold Mine processing plant. The role will also involve setting the approach for achieving continuous improvement in all aspects of the processing plant and liaising closely with the Process Manager to recommend these improvements.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the metallurgy team’s efforts to assist processing operations in cementing a safety culture within the processing group by ensuring all positive, forward looking safety initiatives are completed by the technical team.
- Proactively seeks out ways in which the technical team can specifically add value to the drive towards a total safety culture, including taking an active role in completing action items from occupational health and safety audits.
- Ensure that requirements for process plant operations under Ghanaian Mine Safety Regulations are met
- Ensure competency training development plans are in place for all operational technical staff and that the training contained in these is completed.
- Identify training needs offered by external service providers and put forward justification for inclusion of these into personal development plans for all technical staff
- Develop:
- the standard site metallurgical test work programs required to ensure processing operations are provided with accurate information relating to operational performance and guidance on how to improve performance
- the routine operating strategy concept to obtain stronger buy-in from the process operations team and facilitate a strong link between Metallurgy, Operations, Maintenance, Mining and Procurement
- Ensure the metallurgical team delivers key technical information to all relevant stakeholders, ensuring that the performance of the processing operations is well understood
- Assist in the development and execution of the processing budgeting process, both Operating and Capital expenditure, complete and review works on capital expenditure requests
- Develop a production management system focused on measurement of incremental continuous improvement.
- Perform any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Company as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Skills or Experience
Minimum qualification (s)
- A degree in Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering / Ore processing
- Statutory Senior Mine Officials Certificates of Competency - Processing Superintendent or Processing Manager’s level
- Master’s degree in management is highly desirable
- Must be able to drive and possess a valid Ghanaian driving license
Experience (Minimum)
- Minimum of 10 years of operational metallurgical experience
- At least 3 years operating as the head of the metallurgical section
Knowledge (In-depth)
- Advanced knowledge of comminution processes, especially the SABC process and practical experience is best.
- Advanced knowledge of the operation of flotation, especially gold-containing sulfide flotation.
- Advanced knowledge of the cyanide leaching process of gold ores, especially CIL/CIP
- Understand the detoxification process for cyanide-containing tailings or solutions.
- Understand metal balance, water balance and cyanide balance work in the mineral processing plant.
- Metallurgical improvement programs for delivering sustained improvements in plant throughput and metal recovery
- Management of small to medium capital projects in processing plant
- Metallurgical Test work
Skills
- Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (written and oral).
- Being able to use Chinese is a plus
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced computer literacy skills – MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and SAP.
- Advanced planning, organizing and prioritizing skills.
- Strong time management skills.
