CONSULTANCY SUMMARY
About the Rainforest Alliance
The Rainforest Alliance (RA) is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behaviour. Our alliance spans 70 countries and includes farmers and forest communities, companies, governments, civil society, and millions of individuals. Together we work to protect forests and biodiversity, act on climate, promote rights and improve the livelihoods of rural people. As an international nonprofit organization with more than 30 years of experience in sustainability transformation, we understand that the social and economic well-being of rural communities is tightly connected to ecosystem health. This knowledge has shaped our rigorous programs to advance sustainable land use and commodity production.
In line with this vision, RA is implementing the four-year LEAN project, since November 2020, in partnership with World Vision Ghana, Tropenbos Ghana and EcoCare Ghana, and co-funded by the European Union through their flagship GCCA+ Initiative.
Main Objective
LEAN´s overall objective is to support national efforts to conserve biodiversity, improve the livelihoods of small-scale farmers, build climate resilience, and reduce emissions from land-use change across Ghana´s high forest, savannah, and transition zones.
The project´s specific aims are as follows:
- Support the establishment of strong, long-lasting and socially inclusive landscape governance structures in three priority landscapes.
- Reduce land degradation, prevent forest loss, increase productivity, build climate resilience, and promote natural resource conservation training for smallholder farmers within the project landscapes.
- Improve market incentives for smallholder farmers to access diversified income streams.
- Support the design and implementation of a LandScale-based Landscape Performance Management Framework.
As part of the project´s implementation, the project´s management is seeking a consultant(s)/firm to conduct tree registration for 4500 farmers in the high forest zone (Sui River Landscape).
Objective of the Assignment
The LEAN project is seeking consultants, firms, and organizations to conduct a tree registration exercise on behalf of Rainforest Alliance in the Sui River Landscape. The Sui River Landscape includes four districts: the Bibiani-Anhwiawso-Bekwai, Sefwi Wiawso, Bodi, and Akontombra Districts.
The tree registration exercise aims to identify, document, and register 4,500 farmers trees using the RMSC app in the Sui River landscape to create a comprehensive and up-to-date database of farmers who have their trees mapped and profiled within this area awaiting FC certification. This will incentivize farmers to plant more trees and nature them since they will be sure of ownership of the trees and will thus result in effective management, monitoring, and conservation/restoration practices.
The consultant:
- Should be trained RMSC on tree registration before carrying out the assignment.
- Is to register four thousand five hundred (4500) farmers trees on their farms at 1,125 farmers per district (4 districts).
- Should identify and document all pertinent information about each farmer and trees as required by RMSC in the T-regis software application.
- All data collected should be successfully synced and is available on the RMSC tree registration web platform.
- Is to provide a report detailing the number of farmers that have their trees registered, number of farms per farmer and the total number of registered trees
