American Public Health Association (APHA)
APHA is the oldest and largest organization of public health professionals in the world, representing more than 50,000 members from over 50 occupations of public health. APHA's mission is to improve the public's health and to achieve equity in health status. APHA offers volunteer internships in several departments to undergraduate and graduate university students. Internships can be developed for a 3-4 month period, an academic quarter, an academic semester, or for a full year.

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, whose mission is to help those who suffer without discrimination and thus contribute to peace in the world. The American Red Cross offers paid and non-paid internship positions for high school, undergraduate and graduate students. Students participating in the internship programs are involved in professional projects, assignments and activities during their tenure with an assigned staff person. The Presidential Internship Program also provides an opportunity for university students to learn about key professional positions with the American Red Cross.

Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), International Youth Internship Program
CIDA is Canada's lead agency for development assistance. CIDA's International Youth Internship Program gives young Canadian postsecondary graduates the opportunity to apply their knowledge, gain international work experience and develop skills in various sectors. Interns are placed for at least six months with Canadian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and host organizations in developing countries.

Society for International Health, Young Professionals Placement Program
The Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH) is a non-governmental organization that works domestically and internationally to reduce global health inequities and strengthen health systems. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is the world's leading independent international medical relief organization, with 5 operational centres in Europe and 14 national sections worldwide. Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Summer Studentship Program
Northern Ontario School of Medicine is a joint initiative of Laurentian University and Lakehead University. Its summer program gives priority to health professional students of any school in Ontario who come from Northern Ontario. Non-northern learners are considered based on space allowances. The program provides paid jobs for 4 to 8 weeks in healthcare settings across Northern Ontario.

World Health Organization (WHO)
WHO is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. WHO's internship program provides a wide range of opportunities for students to gain insight into the work of WHO. Interns must be enrolled in a degree program in a graduate school and must possess a first degree in a public health, medical or social field related to the technical work of WHO.

Internships have a duration of 6 to 12 weeks and are offered on a volunteer basis.

Youth Challenge International (YCI)
YCI is a non-profit youth development and educational institution with the mission to build the skills, experience and confidence of young people to effect positive change in their communities. YCI involves Canadian youth in hands-on projects in developing countries to address local development issues. Projects last for five to ten weeks. Participants are required to pay a fee to help cover the costs of projects.
